Are you in need of simple, portable, plug-and-play setups for your loudspeaker solutions? Consider upgrading to the QSC L-Class Series! SoundPro recently interviewed SoundPro customer and Sound Engineer Christopher P. about how he transports and seamlessly integrates the L-Class Line Array Series into his busy live production season.
SP: Thanks for talking with us today, Christopher! What brought you to SoundPro?
CP: It’s so nice to talk with you, too! I’m the Vice Chairman of an audiovisual team for a nonprofit organization. We hold a variety of events, and currently have eight different platforms for deploying our audio, which is a lot to manage. We’ve begun the process of upgrading and streamlining those systems. We’ve been a customer of SoundPro for several years – even before I joined the organization – but I’ve worked with Brian Kaphingst for about five years.
SP: Why was your organization looking to upgrade to QSC L-Class?
CP: So, funny enough story. The current generation of volunteers that are coming into our organization don't necessarily understand passive cabinets, amplification, or configuring amplifier DSPs. The constant education of the volunteers was not conducive for our team to have consistent and streamlined event deployments.
With that in mind, I began looking for a turnkey solution to make it easy for our audio volunteers. We needed it to be easy enough to deploy by one person. The L-Class Series really caught my attention during my search.
SP: What features caught your attention?
CP: Well, there's the build quality and the fact that the weight of the speaker itself (the LA112), weighs about 35 pounds. That is light enough for a smaller person to handle putting on top of an array stack, which is nice. We don't have to lug around, you know, 200-pound cabinets anymore. It's 35 pounds in tote bags and it's great. And the subs are on casters.
Also, with our team consistently going into new venues and being a fully volunteer team, it's all about timelines. We don't have a crew of 100 to show up to do a load-in and buildout, and having a system capable of being deployed by two people in an hour is just a
godsend.
SP: What are you using the L-Class for on a regular basis? How does your team deploy the L-Class System for your events?
CP: We have a variety of events that we do throughout the year, whether it be an outdoor event like a picnic, or for a large convention in a 29,000 square foot ballroom.
It depends on the application, but generally we run a two ground stack configuration – which allows us to keep it portable – and have two to three boxes on a pole for each sub. We’re using LA112s for our boxes on top and LA118s for subs (we'll be upgrading to L-Class subs this fall).
We stretch it to be used in a variety of situations - you never know what you’ll need until you’re in the room, but this system is versatile enough to do it all, and that’s why we trust it.
SP: In what ways do you see future benefits from upgrading to an L-Class system?
CP: When it comes to the L-Class itself, I do have to say that my biggest selling point on it, and the thing that excited me the most, was its flexibility. It doesn't matter if you're putting a single cab on a speaker stand or flying six in an array. It's something that can scale to what you need.
And the sound quality is honestly unmatched. It kind of blew my mind when we set it up for the first time.
SP: Is there anything else you would want us to know about your experience purchasing L-Class from SoundPro?
CP: Everything with you guys has been outstanding, and you bend over backwards to work with us as a nonprofit. It has made it to where I won't go anywhere else, so you made the decision extremely simple for us - and it's one that I'm glad we made.
Thanks Christopher!
