Capture natural stereo sound via the two built-in omnidirectional condenser mics or connect handheld or shotgun mics (sold separately). The DR-701D also incorporates speakers for instant playback of your recording or real-time monitoring of the audio as you capture it.
This recorder includes a built-in mixer that lets you record 4 tracks and their stereo mix (6 tracks total) simultaneously. The mixer boasts features such as pan and level adjustments, as well as a delay function to compensate for distances between mics and a mid-side decoding function for MS stereo mics.
The DR-701D is packed with professional functionality so you can deliver polished audio for any size or type of project. A timecode generator provides location reference and can be synced from an SMPTE generator, camera, or smart slate. HDMI I/O allows a DSLR camera to start recording on both devices. The video clock prevents drift between sound and picture. HDDA circuits convert the amplified audio to digital, supporting 96kHz/24-bit resolution when recording 6 tracks and 192kHz/24-bit when recording 2 tracks. The Dual Recording function records a second track on a lower level—the perfect precaution against audio distortion or volume jumps.

Create next-generation content with the DR-701D’s capacity for recording Virtual Reality productions. With the Version 2.00 firmware update, Ambisonics recording is enabled by encoding both A and B formats, delivering a real-time stereo monitor mix of B format content.
Additional Features and Compatibility
The DR-701D includes a 3.5mm stereo input connector that accepts many video camera mics. It is powered via 4 internal AA batteries, with the ability to use a mobile battery using a Micro-B USB port (mobile batteries sold separately). The DR-701D can also be used with a Tascam BP-6AA battery pack (sold separately). This recorder also comes with built-in tripod mounts on its top and bottom, allowing you to mount it under a camera, attach it to a follow-focus cage, or just be used standalone. For additional tracks, multiple units can be cascaded together.
